![]() Last November Cathy and I had the privilege to spend time with Matthew's family in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. We love our grandchildren so much. It does something to our hearts to play, talk and see the world from their perspective. We took our grandson Ben to the park to romp and to play on the slides and swings. He was ecstatic as he ran from one apparatus to another. He would race to the stairs of the slide and climb up to sit down. His eyes would light up and he would countdown before beginning his slide. Every moment was a thrill for Ben. He would tire us out running up and down the hill and from one section of the park to another. It was like he could not get enough of the playground. Finally Ben settled on the swing and was fascinated to have Papaw and Mimi greet him on each end of his swing. His laughter echoed through the park as he loved to go faster and faster. This was the ultimate thrill for him. A few minutes into the swinging Ben recognized the shadow that was following him on the ground. Then like the story of Peter Pan he began to talk to his shadow. He would shout at the top of his voice. . .Go shadow go! In his amazement the shadow stayed with him. ![]() Ben was living his dream of swinging high and discovering new things in his world. We were laughing and enjoying every moment with our grandson and taking note of his heart and excitement. At about that time I heard the roar of a C-130 taking off from the nearby airport. I knew there was a chance that our son Matt would be flying this morning. What I didn't know was that his plane would come directly over the park where we were playing with his son. I had been taking pictures of Ben so I turned the camera around and snapped a shot of our son flying his military aircraft for the Air Force. Then it hit me. When our son was real small he had two things in his hands. One was a motorcycle in his left hand. The other was an airplane. Here was our son living his childhood dream. In my mind’s eye I could see our son floating his plane to a landing. This pretend even included sound for the airplane. I know this holiday season is filled with dreams for all of us. We love nothing more than to see dreams come true. We pray that this holiday season will allow you to see the fulfillment of dreams in the hearts of your family. May you experience the thrill, satisfaction and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. On this sacred Christmas eve may the dreams of your heart dance tonight! I know you've heard this many times during the season, but Merry Christmas and happy new year. We dearly love you. ![]() Over the past five years we have had the pleasure of meeting missionaries from several continents and dozens of countries. What a joy it has been to build relationships with them and learn their culture and customs. One of the most intriguing aspects of our new relationships has been learning the different traditions surrounding Christmas. The Germans have told us about St. Nicholas day on December 6th when they would put out their largest shoe or boot. The next morning it would be filled with candy. Even twenty year old students still practiced the tradition last year. The Dutch talked about a Christmas tree but no mention of Santa Claus. The same is true in Africa. In some countries the giving of gifts is significantly reduced and the church plays a stronger role during Christmas. Even missionaries from the same country would have different traditions from region to region. It has been eye opening for us. We would all acknowledge that the central focus of Christmas is the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Commercialization has so infected the holidays that it can easily veil the true meaning of this holiday. Consider starting a new tradition this year that will highlight the birth of Jesus as the focal point in your home and community. Our experiences of past Christmas’ are so rich, warm and meaningful. We have yet to find someone who didn’t smile when the subject of Christmas came up. May your holiday be filled with tender experiences as you spend time with those you love. Thanks for the many investments you have made this year to help others see the reality of Jesus. It has been a great joy to walk with you into the hearts of ministry leaders in so many places. We are deeply grateful for your heart and vision. Pictured is one the corn fields planted for orphans in Swaziland. Numsa Lukele, the leader of the ministry Asondle Sive Bomake (Siswati language for Let’s feed the Nation Mothers), is pictured in one of the corn fields planted to feed over 900 orphans in the Kaphunga area of villages in the mountains. We provided the seed corn together to ensure these children can eat in 2014. It is a blessed Christmas as corn and squash are coming up in this remote area. Have a blessed Christmas. The singleness of purpose allows divine thinking to surface in reaction to the issues of the day. Others continually see the Lord in your life. Have you laid up the Word of God in your heart today? Have you sought him with your whole heart in the last hour? Is His Word internalized in your heart? Does His Word determine your walk? What scripture surfaces for you at this instant? John 8:31 says, Then Jesus turned to the Jews who had claimed to believe in him. “If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure. [1] We are praying for you now. Jn ![]() A Kingdom Leader is continually put in a position that will reveal the focus of their faith. The spies in the promised land were a great picture of that difficult place. Two believed they should go and take the land. All of the others felt they could not defeat the giants who lived in the land. The heart of their thinking was focused on their size, talent and strength. Mostly their weaknesses. Is your faith in God’s ability or in your ability to accomplish goals? Do the giants of your heart, mind and soul cause you to pause and feel like an insect? Are you willing to stand up against overwhelming odds? A Kingdom Leader has their faith focused on God’s strength. 1 Kings 17:14 (NIV) 14 For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’ ” Where God guides. . . he provides.
