Report from Africa! Proverbs 16:9 (NIV) In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.i How many times have we made plans and watched God alter the steps. We found ourselves coming to Africa almost a month early. God took our plans and flipped them from October to June. A planned visit to Mpumalanga was moved from July to late August. A later visit to Amathunzi was moved from October to June. We find ourselves filling a void while Rolf Weichardt and Buyela are ministering in America. Volunteer students from Germany need training, Bible Study and guidance. Cathy assists Lizzie Weichardt with various duties around Amathunzi and we blend in as if we were members of the family. Old friends come and greet us. The zebras, elands, dogs, workers and neighbors acknowledge our presence. The little Cottage, that has become a second home to us, was a warm welcoming sight as we walked in. One of the workers brought us a loaf of freshly cooked bread. Several times a week we are investing our lives, our understanding of God’s Word and experience in ministry with a group of young people who are experiencing a mission experience for the first time. They minister to farm children at the local schools. Their hunger for the Bible has been heartwarming. Their questions seem endless and their desire to meet has grown. This week we sat in the Cottage at Amathunzi with the wind blowing, rain blasting and a cold that seems to sink all the way to the bones. Winter is here blowing from the Cape of Good Hope with a relentless fury. There is no fireplace but there is a nice warm blanket! We sat and smiled at one another and watched an old black and white detective movie from the thirties on our computer. Understanding the steps of God can confuse the most astute gumshoe like Charlie Chan. Thank you for your prayer and support. You have made us flexible as God establishes our steps. The warmth of being in God’s will radiates from our hearts! Kudu Glimpse at an Icon The African Kudu is a large sized antelope with spiral horns. Cathy and I consider it one of the most beautiful antelopes in the world. We have seen them many times in the Kruger National Park of South Africa. The silhouette of this majestic animal has been adopted for South African game parks. We have been served many exotic animal meats during our visits to Africa. We think that Kudu, which is very lean and tasty, is our favorite. We have also discovered that they can sometimes be difficult to spot. Its markings make the Kudu more concealing than revealing. They serve to break up the animals’ form with disruptive coloration and enabling it to blend into the background. Even the spiral horns seem to be out of place in the bush. That is exactly what Satan attempts to do in our lives. Blend in so we don’t recognize his presence. He uses every method to dull our sight and blur the reality of our lives. Unfortunately, we begin to feel safe from the evil one. I have heard many people say, why would Satan want to get me? I am not important to the Kingdom of God. That thought pattern can be the first sign that you believe you are just blending in. Lions use other forms of detection to recognize the presence of prey. Smell and hearing are just as important as sight. Are you a complacent Christian? Do you think you are safe from the enemy? Take a closer look. Pray for us as we board a plane for Africa today! A Kingdom Leader is aware that mentoring begins with his own relationship with God and then moves towards a relationship with others. The Bible says that the Word became flesh and lived among us. Each of us must slow the pace, quiet the distractions and create space for attending to the ordinary issues of life. But most importantly we must pitch our tent among others for a while. Is your life the lesson for others to learn from? Are other people close enough to you so they can see the work of God's grace in your life? Has isolation insulated you from others? Have past wounds made you afraid of close relationships? Our faith in God is to be shared with others and when necessary we should use words. Matthew 4:13 (NIV) 13 Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum,l which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali-- The little fishing village of Capernaum became the place where Jesus lived. Many of his disciples came from that small town. This last village in Herod's area became the launching point for His ministry. It had no paved streets, no sewer or channel for water and low quality construction. It had no signs of wealth like other towns.Jesus pitched his tent in this small community. Are you more concerned with comfort than influence? Is your life accessible to others? Move toward mentoring relationships today.
